Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is probably the most common cause of vestibular vertigo accounting for approximately     20–30% of diagnoses in specialized dizziness clinics. The evolution of highly effective positioning maneuvers has made BPPV the most successfully treatable cause of vertigo. This 3 day in-person hands on course will equip you with all the necessary knowledge and skills needed to confidently diagnose and treat patients with BPPV. 

Course Structure

  • Detailed anatomy of semicircular canal: Inside out and outside in.

  • Head movement to hair cell coupling.

  • What forces semicircular detects and what forces do not affect the canals

  • The pathways from each canal to the individual extra-ocular muscles.

  • Understanding positional vertigo due to free floating debris in canals.

  • Understanding positional vertigo due to cupular mass increase or decrease.

  • The connected cog-wheels approach to understand nystagmus observed in each canal.

  • All the diagnostic maneuvers: Hands on practice till perfection.

  • Interpreting nystagmus seen with single and combined canal involvement.

  • All therapeutic maneuvers: Hands on practice till perfection.

  • Central positional vertigo and nystagmus: Otolith semicircular canal interactions.

  • Central positional vertigo and nystagmus: Clinical examples.
